We are Buying BOUGHT!!! a Facility

THE FACILITY PROGRESS

We closed on the facility on July 5th, 2022!

We now own 23047 M-78 Battle Creek, Michigan.

Now, it needs quite a bit of things to make it ours.

We went before the Pennfield Charter Township Planning Board and received unanimous yes votes across the board for approval for our special use permit.

We went before the Pennfield Charter Township Board of Directors and received unanimous yes votes across the board for approval for our special use permit.

On August 4, 2022 we went before the Pennfield Charter Township Zoning Board of Appeals and get special permission to operate on 2 acres instead of 5 because of how we are classified as a business. We got a unanimous vote for yes across the board.

We now have a full occupancy permit and are in the building.

PROJECT STATUS

1) ✅ DONE - We rang in at 13,500 for the septic project. It is paid in full. This was completed at the end of the summer in 2022.

We need a new septic. We have the permit, and we’re in the middle of getting estimates. It calls for a 1500 gal tank, a 1000 gal tank with a pump, and a 20x50 drain field. It’s an expensive system, and we’re working on fundraising for that right now. Estimated cost: 12-20k depending on who we go with.

2) IN PROGRESS - The handicap bathroom project, moving the plumbing to the opposite side of the building for the new septic is nearly complete. Electric is in, plumbing is in, new flooring is in, drywall is in, lights are in, new door is installed, toilet installed.

All that’s left is the new countertop we’re custom making for it, the mirrors, grab bars and the trim around the door and floor. Expected completion is September 2023.

3) IN PROGRESS - Power Washing Station is nearly completed. Electric is in, plumbing is in, drain is in to the new septic, drywall is in on the inside. What’s left is installing the floor pan, waterproof walls, lighting and actually buying the new electric power washing tool for inside the room. Expected completion is October 2023.

4) IN PROGRESS - We want to paint, fix up the electric issues (some outlets don’t work etc.) and make the ceiling a little prettier (it’s those weird tiles from the 70’s right now) and install new lighting in the front and middle rooms. Estimated cost: $3000

Update to this project: The front room is done, and we’ll attack the middle room after the bathroom and power washing station are complete. Expected completion is Fall/Winter 2023.

5) IN PROGRESS - We want to lay new flooring throughout the whole building. Estimated cost $10k We currently have the flooring, the glue and are in process of getting the subfloor and trim.

Update: Front room, both bathrooms, office and Room of Requirements are complete. We have the flooring thanks to the INCREDIBLE Pam at Man N Mountain for the whole building. We got it at an incredible discount and paid less than 10k for all the tile and the floor pan for the power washing station. I can tell you this flooring is AMAZEBALLS. It’s indestructible, and trust me, they try.

We expect to complete the middle room when the power washing station and bathroom projects are complete, and the kitchen is in. Expected completion is late fall/winter 2023.

6) IN PROGRESS - We want to build out the Kitchen and Medical Prep/Grooming Area. Estimated Cost: $8500.00 This project is underway. We will likely do an Ikea kitchen after the power washing station is in. Right now, it’s pretty janky, and we’re using an old school fridge that doesn’t exactly like to stay closed - but we expect to have a full kitchen, dishwasher, cabinets and counters for our medical area and food prep areas complete by Spring of 2024.

We’ll do a new fridge, freezer, dishwasher, counters, and backsplash.

7) We will need to build an enclosure for the garbage bin area, per code. Estimated cost: $1500.00

8) The Back Room: We’re currently using the backroom as a space for the workshop for Birdiebye, the for profit LLC created to make money for the rescue, and as our quarantine space. It’s ugly as sin but we’re got a pellet stove and a giant fan for heating and cooling, and it’s got separate air space from the other two sections of the building. After the rest of the building is done, we’ll work on the back room.

9) The Barn: Eventually, the barn will house regular Community Rescue Craft and Trade Shows, Obedience Classes for community dog trainers, and hopefully the whole workshop for Birdiebye where the laser and all our wood working can live in there.

To make that happen, it needs concrete poured for the floors, drains installed in the floors, and for us to insulate and for us to drywall in the entire space to make it warm and secure. We’ll need to close off some bay doors, and put new siding and roof on the already solid foundation.

This will be an extremely pricey venture, which we hope to have Birdiebye pay for when the company takes off like an actual rocket and becomes the next Fortune 500 Company.

10) New Roof/Siding for the main building: Also going to be pricey. Again, we’ll expect Birdiebye to help pay for this when the time comes along with some solid fundraising efforts.

11) IN PROGRESS AND PARTIALLY COMPLETED: Security. We have installed a multi-layer state of the art security system (which we’ll not go into details of, but suffice it say it’s already done its job on multiple levels). We would also like to eventually completely high-fence the property with gates at each drive. That would give the dogs free-roam of the property to protect it and exercise, and would create another barrier for anyone wishing to do harm on the property to get in undetected to break in or cause havoc.

The emergency management system for the police is in-place, the police regularly use our drive as a a place to park, and our neighbors rock for Neighborhood Watch, but we feel like the fence would be able to add a layer of security that nothing else can.
